Electronics in cars have been around for over 50 years. Volkswagen, for example, already installed electronically controlled fuel injection in the VW 1600 LE.
Over the years, however, electronics have become increasingly complex and networked. Sensors work together with microprocessors to strive for maximum efficiency and safety.
Error diagnosis is becoming more and more complex because the number of error sources is increasing. And if the fault cannot be found, there is a risk of losing the vehicle registration.
No wonder many car enthusiasts fear that modern vehicles will be almost impossible to maintain in the future, and that there will be a lack of spare parts and know-how to keep the cars of the nineties and beyond roadworthy.
Are these fears justified? Or is the problem perhaps only half as bad as feared? Which cars can and will survive, which are more likely to fail?
These questions will be discussed at the fireside chat in the Autohalle on March 21, 2023. Under the direction of Bruno von Rotz, Georg B. Dönni, Jaguar pope and owner and founder of GB Dönni Classic Car AG in Roggliswil, and Adrian Schwarzer, workshop manager of Autohalle Oldtimer Werkstatt in Andelfingen, will discuss precisely these topics and illustrate them with practical examples.
As usual, the discussion will take place in the Cigar Lounge of the Autohalle Andelfingen, which will be kept smoke-free for the occasion. From 18:30 to 19:00 there will be an aperitif with Prosecco, wine, beer, water and potato chips, followed by a discussion in front of the fireplace from 19:00.
This can be followed by dinner, for which a table can be reserved if required. The dinner is not part of the event. The cost of participation is CHF 49.60 per person, which includes the aperitif and, if desired, a guided tour of the car showroom.
