Jochen Neerpasch was the first managing director of BMW Motorsport GmbH. He is also considered the father of the BMW M1. For this reason, he was awarded honorary membership of the BMW M1 Club e.V. on January 30, 2020. Neerpasch was delighted to receive this (and the accompanying certificate) from Wolfgang Melter, President of the BMW M1 Club e.V.
Neerpasch, a talented racing driver and winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1968, among others, built up racing at Ford at the end of the 1960s, but switched to BMW in the spring of 1972, where he subsequently trimmed the CSL coupés into winning cars and finally launched the BMW M1.
