The Swiss Classic Awards in various categories will be presented for the first time at Swiss Classic World on May 27 and 28, 2018. The awards recognize the achievements of individuals and institutions or associations that have made a special contribution to the promotion and recognition of historic vehicles as a rolling cultural asset.
The awards are presented in four different categories. The "Swiss Classic Lifetime Award" is the outstanding, most important prize.
1. the "Swiss Classic Lifetime Award 2018"
The main prize of the Swiss Classic Awards is the Lifetime Award. It honors individuals and groups who have achieved above-average relevance for the cause of the historic vehicle and have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements. Another important aspect is the sustainability of their activities beyond their temporal and geographical sphere of influence.
The Lifetime Award is presented by the jury (Urs P. Ramseier, Mattia Tonella, Bernhard Täschler, Martin Sigrist), so it cannot be voted on.
The shortlist includes Hans André Bichsel, Ferdinand Hediger and Georges Cots.
2. the "Swiss Classic Innovations Award 2018"
This award recognizes achievements of a technical, organizational or publicity nature that have been presented or become effective as an innovation in the past year. These can be new methods of restoration, an organizational or information platform, new ownership models or outstanding events that take place on a regular basis.
The nominees are IGFS (Interessengemeinschaft Fahrzeugrestauratoren), Alsave (Brandschutz für klassische Fahrzeuge) and zwischengas.com/zwischengas.ch. The election takes place publicly by counting the online votes.
3. the "Swiss Classic Rookie Award 2018"
A rookie is a newcomer - the next generation. The "Rookie Award" rewards efforts to promote young talent and rejuvenate the community of classic car enthusiasts. These can be individuals, institutions, events or platforms that have made an outstanding contribution to the promotion and recognition of historic vehicles as a rolling cultural asset across the generations by passing on specialist knowledge and commitment.
The Youngtimer-Connection, the RAID Young Raiders Challenge and bugbus.net are up for election. The election will be made public by counting the online votes.
4. the "Swiss Classic Door Opener Award 2018"
The Door Opener Award recognizes campaigns and achievements that bring the topic of historic vehicles closer to a wider target group. These can be events and exhibitions as well as journalistic activities. An important aspect of the Door Opener is the external impact and the appeal to third parties, who can thus become sympathetic to the cause or even be persuaded to actively participate. In particular, the door opener recognizes the achievements in promoting women in the scene.
The Oldtimer Sunday Morning Treffen (OSMT), the Museum Night Bern and the SMVC Lady Drivers were mentioned here. The vote is made publicly by counting the online votes.
In categories 2 to 4, the public is asked to vote. Anyone can take part and there is even something to be won. Click here to go to the Swiss Classic Award website and to vote (scroll down).
Editor's note: zwischengas.com is not directly involved in this election, nor was our platform nominated by us. Nevertheless, we are happy about every vote.
