The second part picks up the thread three decades later. Bertie (Til Schweiger) gave up his career as a racing driver some time ago and now runs a car repair shop and an adjoining go-kart track more or less on the cheap. When he falls behind with the repayment of a loan and the bank threatens to foreclose on the property, Bertie comes up with a daring plan: the prize money from the upcoming big nineties race on the Bilster Berg could solve his financial problems in one fell swoop. A race against time begins: he has one month to turn his old Opel into a bullet from the old Manta days. When ex-wife Uschi (Tina Ruland) suddenly enters Bertie's life and asks him to look after their son Daniel (Tim Oliver Schultz), the month of chaos is complete.
In addition to the legendary clique around Til Schweiger, Tina Ruland and Michael Kessler, Luna Schweiger, Tim Oliver Schultz, Tamer Trasoglu, Ronis Goliath, Moritz Bleibtreu, Nilam Farooq, Justus Johanssen, Timur Bartels, Wotan Wilke Möhring and Axel Stein complete the top-class cast. Prominent faces such as Lukas Podolski, Alena Gerber, JP Kraemer and Frank Buschmann can be seen in guest roles.
Manta, Manta - Zwoter Teil" was produced by Christoph Müller, Viola Jäger and Philipp Reuter and the film was funded by the German Federal Film Board (DFFF), the German Federal Film Board (FFA), the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF). Martin Moszkowicz was executive producer. The film was directed by Til Schweiger, who also wrote the screenplay together with Michael David Pate, Miguel Angelo Pate, Peter Grandl, Murmel Clausen, Carsten Vauth and Reto Salimbeni. The film distribution company Constantin Film is behind the second part.
