The annual Planai Classic will take place from January 3 to 5, 2020. For this edition, it was recently announced that a famous racing driver will take on the role of the advance car with a no less famous rally car.
A crowd puller
He has long been a legend of motor racing and a great friend of the Ennstal and Planai Classic: Hans Joachim "Strietzel" Stuck. He is also a great crowd-pleaser in summer and winter, magnetizing young and old alike. For the Planai-Classic, Wolfsburg is providing him with an interesting car as an advance car.
Homage to the VW Rallye Golf G60
Based on the first generation of the Golf, Volkswagen began developing rally cars back in the 1970s. The Golf 2 celebrated great international success as the GTI 16V and won the Group A World Championship title with the Eriksson/Diekmann team in 1986. In 1987, Volkswagen developed the 160 hp Golf G60 rally car. From 1989 to 1991, 5,000 vehicles of this type were built at the VW plant in Brussels, so that the number required for homologation as a Group 1 production touring car was reached.
The thoroughbred racing version of the Rallye Golf with 282 hp engine power was built at Volkswagen Motorsport in Hanover. Produced in 1990, the vehicle with the registration number WOB-VX44 was used in various rallies at the factory and restored from the ground up in 2015. In its current condition, the car is a tribute to the VW Rally Golf G60 with which Erwin Weber became German Rally Champion in 1991.
