For the first time, Gooding Christie's will be auctioning 82 cars, 1 motorcycle and two memorabilia in the halls of Rétromobile Paris as an official partner. Gooding Christie's is thus taking over from Artcurial, which has sold its cars in the halls for many years.
David Gooding can boast an attractive offer at its first appearance, which is worth over EUR 79 million in total. EUR 930,000 per lot is expected at the "Porte de Versaille". 53% of the lots will be offered without a reserve price. On average, the vehicles are over 61 years old.
Ferrari and the rest
With 16 cars, the manufacturer Ferrari is the most strongly represented, and with an average value of EUR 2.96 million, the brand achieves the highest value among the more widely represented car manufacturers.
While only 19% of the Ferraris went under the hammer without a reserve price, almost two thirds of the eight Porsches could be bought without a reserve price. For Fiat with seven cars, the figure is as high as 71%, and for Alfa Romeo with six cars, all of them. The Alfa cars are also the oldest in the top group, with an average age of 83 years.
Expensive pre-war cars
Three pre-war cars are among the eleven most valuable cars.
The Talbot-Lago T150-C-SS as a "Teardrop Coupé" from 1938 will certainly generate a lot of interest. Chassis 90112 with the famous bodywork creation by Figoni & Falaschi was shown at the Concours in Brussels, Paris and Deauville in 1939 and also took a class victory at Pebble Beach. It is now expected to fetch EUR 6.5 to 7.5 million.
Even rarer than the Talbot-Lago is the Ballot 3⁄8 LC Biplace De Grand Prix from 1920, which even then boasted an eight-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts. Only three examples of this successful racing car are said to have survived. Chassis 1006 is announced for EUR 3.5 to 6 million.
And then there is the Bugatti Type 57C Atalante from 1938 with chassis number 57718, which is expected to find a new owner for EUR 2.25 to 2.75 million. It is just one of three examples with an aluminum body and supercharger.
Impressive Ferrari line-up
71 years separate the oldest and youngest Ferrari at Gooding in Paris.
The earliest car from Maranello is a 166 Inter Coupé from 1950, which was estimated at EUR 700,000 to 800,000 with a Vignale body. Only eight such cars were built in the early 1950s and took part in the Liège-Sofia-Liège Rally in 1951.
The latest Ferrari is a Monza SP1 from 2021, which, with 215 km on the clock, has hardly been driven in the last five years. The estimate for the single-seater and individually specified car, one of just over 100 examples, is EUR 2.5 to 3 million.
The most expensive Ferrari, however, is a 250 GT SWB from 1960, which is said to cost between EUR 8 and 9 million.
Close behind is a 288 GTO from 1984, estimated at EUR 6 to 7 million.
Two FXXs are also in the mid-single-digit million range, accompanied by a 250 GT LWB California Spider from 1958, which is expected to fetch EUR 5 to 6.5 million from its new owner.
Mention should also be made of the 400 Superamerica Series 1 from 1962 as a Coupé Aerodinamico, for which EUR 2.75 to 3.25 million is expected.
The Ferrari portfolio is complemented by other super classics such as the Dino 246 GT, 512 BBi, 250 GT Lusso, 250 GTE and 330 GTC.
A Miura SV from Switzerland
Three Lamborghini cars go under the hammer at Gooding.
Alongside an Espada and a Diablo, it will be the Miura P400 SV from 1971 that is likely to generate a lot of interest. Delivered as a new car by Foitek in Switzerland, the mid-engined sports car with chassis number 4908 is one of only 150 SVs and has just 25,553 km on the clock. EUR 3.25 to 3.75 million is expected.
Many special bodies
Gooding in Paris has a large selection of vehicles with special bodies.
This includes, for example, the Talbot-Lago T26 as a Record Cabriolet with Worblaufen bodywork from 1947, which is looking for a new garage for EUR 325,000 to 425,000.
Super rare is the Maserati 5000 GT from 1962 with bodywork by Pietro Frua, for which a moderate EUR 750,000 to 950,000 was set.
Also for sale is a 1932 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Coupé de Ville by Letourneur Et Marchand, which the Gooding experts estimated at EUR 230,000 to 330,000.
And the Delahaye 135 M as a convertible by Chapron from 1938 also belongs in this group at EUR 225,000 to 325,000.
Several Fiat derivatives from Sibona-Basano, Ghia and Francis Lombardi show that special bodies do not necessarily have to cost six-figure sums.
Gooding Christie's offerings in Paris are diverse and include many interesting rarities, so a visit to the exhibition in advance is likely to be a highlight of a visit to the fair in Paris. It will also be interesting to see how the cars perform at David Gooding's first official appearance in Paris.
Further information and many pictures of the individual vehicles can be found on the Gooding Christie's website.
