Summary
For the first time, Gooding Christie's offered 80 cars, 1 motorcycle and two automobiles worth almost EUR 79 million directly in Hall 7.1 of Rétromobile Paris as an official partner. Despite 52% lots without a reserve price, only 80% of the vehicles were sold directly, for an average of EUR 763,861. The sometimes optimistic estimates often could not be realized, which is why some of the showpieces were left standing. The most expensive cars sold were a Ferrari 288 GTO, a Ferrari FXX K Evo and the super-elegant Talbot-Lago T150-C SS. This auction review analyzes the results, describes the atmosphere on site and shows the vehicles in pictures.

Preview (beginning of the article)
For years, Artcurial had organized the official auction of the Rétromobile, but on January 29, 2026, Gooding Christie's appeared for the first time as a partner of the Rétromobile in Hall 7.1. David Gooding and Charlie Ross presented a series of 80 cars, a motorcycle and two automobiles over the course of 6.5 hours. The total value of the lots was estimated in advance at EUR 78.7 million, 52% were offered without a reserve price. David Gooding, who says he has been coming to Rétromobile for 18 years, opened the auction with obvious pride, thanked his team and welcomed the several hundred interested parties on site. He also positioned the auctioneer: "Who doesn't know Charlie Ross is in for a treat". Ross is indeed a force of nature and certainly one of the best auctioneers in the classic car world. But even he couldn't work miracles.
