The original Lamborghini Miura SV, which was exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show in 1971, was shown at the "Concours d'Elégance" in Amelia Island (USA) from March 10 to 13 after a restoration by Lamborghini PoloStorico lasting around a year.
Together with five other Lamborghini Miura cars built between 1968 and 1972, the 50th birthday of the sports car icon was celebrated.
Presentation 45 years ago in Geneva
The Lamborghini Miura SV (Superveloce), chassis no. 4846, is a pre-production model of the Miura SV. The vehicle was presented for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in 1971, while Bertone presented the new Countach LP 500 with a longitudinally mounted twelve-cylinder engine on its stand.
The SV on display was a one-off that adopted parts of the previous Miura S model and introduced new elements that characterized the later SV models.
Freshly restored
Just over a year ago, Lamborghini PoloStorico was commissioned to restore the car with chassis no. 4846 to its perfect original condition. Instead of using new parts from the later SV production, every single detail of the vehicle from the Geneva Motor Show was reconstructed true to the original as far as possible on the basis of intensive historical research.
The restoration of the green metallic (Verde Metallizzato) painted vehicle with medium brown leather (Cuoio) included a complete overhaul of the vehicle chassis and engine. Using photographs and other historical documents from the archives, every single part of the Miura was restored to its original form, and following the original production sheet and records held by Automobili Lamborghini, every component was restored or replaced. All of Lamborghini's craftsmanship and original Lamborghini parts were used, from repainting the body in the original color to restoring the interior and overhauling the engine.
50 years of Miura
"This is a very important automobile, not only for its historical value as a Geneva show car and forerunner of the Miura SV models built later, but also as the first completed restoration project of the Lamborghini PoloStorico," explains Enrico Maffeo, Head of PoloStorico. "We are proud to be able to show this car perfectly restored for the first time at the prestigious Amelia Island Concours d'Elégance with the owner's consent. This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Lamborghini Miura. This car not only illustrates the legendary fascination of the Miura, which is generally regarded as the forerunner of modern super sports cars, but is also a perfect example of the professional expertise with which Lamborghini PoloStorico expertly restores historic Lamborghinis."
Lamborghini PoloStorico was officially opened in spring 2015 and comprises four main areas: Restoration of classic Lamborghini models; archive maintenance; original Lamborghini spare parts, covering around 70% of the historic vehicle stock; and finally, official certification of historic Lamborghini vehicles.
