The RAID Young Raiders Challenge passed its baptism of fire with flying colors. It is fair to say that the young generation conquered the young and classic car scene on the second weekend in May.
On Saturday, May 13, the first RAID Young Raiders Challenge kicked off at the AMAG Autowelt Zurich. It was a mixture of nervousness and excitement when the 62 young drivers started the first RAID Young Raiders Challenge.
Not only were there younger teams at the start, but also younger cars, as the rally was also open to youngtimers under the age of 30. An Opel Kadett D, a front-wheel-drive Ford Escort, a Renault 5 Turbo, a fourth-generation Toyota Celica and a younger Nissan were seen at the start, all cars that are otherwise rarely seen at a rally.
The much-praised route took the participants through wonderful landscapes to Fribourg, where the evening ended with the VW Bulli Party. Sunday was dedicated to the beautiful Swiss mountains. A lot was demanded of the young and oldtimers - Jaunpass and Gurnigel to name just two winding routes. At the rally finish, in the Oldtimergalerie Toffen, the award ceremony took place with appropriate honoring of the winners.
Two ladies at the top
Daria Müller (pilot) and Sabina Schneider (co-pilot) won with their 1963 Triumph TR4: the two ladies drove away from the competition with an incredible 63 penalty points. The two winners were delighted to receive their prizes to great applause - including a new VW Golf donated by Volkswagen (for one year's use).
In addition to Team Müller/Schneider, the entire field of participants should be congratulated on their overall excellent performance. The excellent atmosphere even infected passers-by who were not involved in the rally. The good mood, which was favored by the great weather, lasted from the start to the finish of the rally. The field of participants, most of whom were inexperienced in rallying, inspired all the spectators along the route with their euphoria and the fantastic cars.
And also important: the rally was successfully completed without any accidents and with all cars.
