Since its opening on July 23, 2023, the “National Automobile Museum: The Loh Collection” in Dietzhölztal-Ewersbach, Central Hesse, has established itself in the international automotive and classic car scene. More than 275,000 visitors from all over the world have visited the exhibition in just three years. Museum founder Prof. Dr. Ing. E. h. Friedhelm Loh. “From the very beginning, our goal was not only to preserve this collection but also to bring it to life for the public: as a vibrant journey through time, exploring technology, design, motorsports, and social development. Every vehicle tells a piece of automotive history—one of courage, innovation, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.”
Schumacher’s Last Ferrari
The centerpiece of the museum is the permanent exhibition, spanning 7,500 square meters and featuring approximately 130 vehicles representing 140 years of automotive history—from early pioneer automobiles to design icons, prototypes, and one-of-a-kind models, all the way to world-class race cars. Highlights include, among others, Michael Schumacher’s last World Championship-winning Ferrari, U.S. President John F. Kennedy’s Lincoln Continental, and the one-of-a-kind record-breaking Maybach Exelero.
Rally Legends
Currently, the fourth special exhibition, “Rally Legends—A Journey Through Time on Asphalt, Gravel, and Snow,” spans the spectrum from early rally cars to classics of the World Rally Championship and on to the radical Group B monsters of the 1980s. Also on display are winning cars from the Dakar Rally and record-breaking cars from the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The exhibition not only showcases spectacular vehicles but also highlights the unique technical challenges of rally racing: traction on varying surfaces, durability, drivability, and the interplay between driver and co-driver under extreme conditions.
HWA Evo and Co
A special highlight this year is the HWA EVO. Hans Werner Aufrecht, founder of AMG and HWA, personally delivered chassis #1 of this exclusive high-performance vehicle to the National Automobile Museum. To mark this occasion, starting July 22, 2026, the museum will present a special exhibition on the “Marktplatz” featuring an extraordinary collection that traces the vehicle’s development from the historic homologation model through DTM racing to its modern reinterpretation.
Since its opening, the National Automobile Museum has received numerous awards. Among the most significant honors is the FIA Founding Members’ Club Heritage Cup, one of the most prestigious international awards for automotive collections. In addition, the Loh Collection has established itself as a destination and meeting place for rallies, club outings, and industry events.
