Dorotheum will be offering a truly wide range of lots on June 15, 2019 in Vösendorf/Vienna. A total of 107 lots will be offered, including 59 cars. The rest includes motorcycles, mopeds and even bicycles.
54 years old on average
While the oldest car, an American LaFrance, was built in 1917, the youngest car is considered a classic car, but was only built in 2003 as the "Ultima Edicion" Beetle.
This Beetle was estimated at EUR 24,000 to 30,000, but not every country would be able to register this late Beetle, which was built alongside the New Beetle.
An average price of 61,000 euros
The total value of the 59 cars was estimated at EUR 3.6 million (CHF 4 million), which means around EUR 61,000 (CHF 68,000) per car.
The most expensive is said to be an S.S. 100 Jaguar from 1938 (EUR 290,000 to 370,000), but a Ford Anglia as a Super Combi deluxe from 1962 might be available for as little as EUR 4000 to 6000.
20 percent of the lots, mainly the cheaper ones, will be sold without a minimum price, so you might be able to find a bargain or two.
Bread-and-butter ...
The many everyday cars from the past, such as an Opel Kadett L Superstar from 1975, which is expected to go for between EUR 5,000 and 7,000, are a welcome addition to the Dorotheum offering.
There are plenty of Volkswagens, especially VW Beetles. The VW 1200 from 1965, for example, with minor signs of wear and tear and a lovely patina, is a real treat for EUR 9000 to 14,000.
Youngtimer fans might be interested in the VW Golf VR6 from 1992, although at EUR 14,000 to 20,000 it is no bargain.
Many other bread-and-butter cars, from the Autobianchi A112 Abarth 70 HP to the Volvo P 122 S from 1968, round off this segment.
... and super classics
Of course, there is no shortage of choice in the super classic segment either.
Whether Ferrari 250 GTE from 1963, Maserati Bora 4900 from 1974 or BMW 3.0 CSL from 1972, everything is on offer.
Of course, the obligatory Jaguar E-Type, here as a 3.8-liter series 1 flat-floor version from 1961 (EUR 120,000 to 170,000), is not missing.
And the Porsche 911 SC 3.2-liter factory test car from 1982, which once served Helmuth Bott as a company car and already featured the equipment of the upcoming 3.2-liter Carrera, is a special treat.
The car was most recently part of the collection of Heinz Prüller, the F1 voice from Austria. EUR 80,000 to 110,000 is perhaps a lot for a 911 from the 1980s, but not much for a one-off, which is not likely to be trivial in terms of registration outside of Austria.
The "Samba", the VW Type 2 T1 with 21 windows, is of course also one of the super classics. EUR 80,000 to 110,000 would be estimated for this popular classic car.
