The Essen Motor Show is celebrating its 51st birthday from December 1 to 9, 2018, and "Mercedes-Fans.de" is joining in the celebrations.
Once again this year, a selection of exceptional Mercedes-Benz models will be presented in Hall 3 at the Mercedes FanWorld under the sign of the star. The editorial team has selected 13 vehicles, and each model is a highlight in its own right. These include classic cars and youngtimers, even if the originality fetishist will certainly not be thrilled in all cases.
190 Evo hillclimber
The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16V became a crowd-puller at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 1983. In the years that followed, the 16-valve model formed a solid basis for highly successful motorsport. Hans-Jürgen Wetter competed in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in 1997 and 1999 with this 190E 2.3-16V. In 1999, he even won his class.
The 190 from the 1985 model year was also able to impress on mountainous stages. In 1989, Wetter was runner-up in the German Hill Climb Championship with his Mercedes.
Racing Stroke Eight celebrates its 50th birthday
In 1995, this Mercedes Stroke 8 6-cylinder competed in the ADAC Youngtimer Trophy. It was based on a 250C 2.8 Coupé, which was modified for racing. During the 1995 season, the Mercedes/8 Coupé took all class victories except in the slalom. Here it was "only" good enough for 2nd place. The Mercedes completed the entire season without a technical problem. Some of the races, such as the sprint races on the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit, were run on its own wheels.
The racing dash-8 is also road-legal and will be 50 years old this year.
Mercedes-Benz W124 with 6-liter engine
A W124 E500 Limited, affectionately known as "the beast". A lot has changed on the E500. Among other things, the displacement of the W124 was increased to six liters. The brakes are from AMG and the suspension comes from H&R. Another special feature are the shift pedals on the steering wheel, which can be used to operate the 5-speed gearbox.
In addition to the increase in displacement, the "hammer chamber" contains a Vortech V7 supercharger, a fan manifold, a water-cooledintercooler, an enlarged water cooler and two engine coolers as well as a transmission oil and servo cooler. The W124 E500 Limited from the Sterngarage is rounded off by a double-flow 70 mm exhaust system.
G 500 portal axle from GFG mbH
Gesellschaft für Geländewagen mbH focuses on the G-Class. Here, everything revolves around the iconic off-road vehicle with the star. This vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz G500. Equipped with a 4.0-liter engine, nothing can stop this G500 thanks to portal axles, winch bumper and an extreme off-road chassis from King Shocks. The V8 engine is based on the V8 engine generation developed by Mercedes-AMG, which already inspires the Mercedes-AMG GT to extraordinary driving performance. The engine has been modified for use in the G-Class and in this version delivers 310 kW (422 hp) with a torque of 610 Newton meters.
Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 "Rote Sau"
This vehicle is a replica of the legendary "Rote Sau", the class winner in Spa 1971, driven by Hans Heyer and Clemens Schickentanz. It was created in consultation with Clemens Schickentanz and is based on the original as far as possible, albeit with minor modernizations. The basis is a production vehicle MB 300 SEL 6.3 from 1970.
After complete dismantling, the vehicle was rebuilt according to old plans. The chassis, brake system and engine were significantly modified and the automatic transmission was replaced by a manual gearbox. The first race was at the 2017 Solitude Revival.
60,000 quartet tickets for all visitors to Mercedes FanWorld
For visitors to Mercedes-FanWorld, there will once again be an attractive quartet card to take away for each of the 13 exhibits, on which all the essential information about the vehicle can be found in addition to the picture. In addition to pins, stickers and mugs, Mercedes fans will once again be able to purchase the popular shirts and hoodies in the MIB store. And, of course, one or two surprises are also planned this year.
