This is certainly one of the biggest surprises of recent months. The organizers of Classic Days Schloss Dyck have announced that their event will be held in Düsseldorf from 2022 and no longer at the nuclear-powered Schloss Dyck.
Classic car enthusiasts have met in large numbers at Schloss Dyck and its spacious grounds 14 times - the last time it was held was in 2019.
After many rounds of negotiations with the Schloss Dyck Foundation - talks on new contracts had already begun in February 2021 - it was unfortunately no longer possible to secure the continuation of the well-established meeting at Schloss Dyck in economic and logistical terms. In November 2021, it became clear that a new solution and location had to be found. This was regretted not only by the organizers of the event, but also by many fans who have remained loyal to the Classic Days over the years.
Marcus Herfort and his fellow campaigners didn't want to bury their heads in the sand, however: "Now, with the end of the possibilities at the castle, the Classic Days and its organizers want one thing above all: to carry on and not disappoint the fans and friends, the participants and cooperation partners, but to continue the recipe for success.
There will certainly be a vote of confidence again - and an impressive track record after 16 years and 14 events. Nobody would understand if we simply packed the Classic Days into the trunk and drove off into the sunset."
Relocation to Düsseldorf
The Düsseldorf exhibition grounds have been found as the new location for the "Classic Days" so that a journey through time can be set up there alongside the "Real World" and all fans and friends can be invited back to the festival.
The organizers see good signs of hope:
"The Classic Days are also becoming greener. After many years of experience in setting up and decorating the garden monument in a careful manner and in symbiosis with the location, the Classic Days are looking forward to the opportunities and design possibilities of the future.
The Classic Days will be a certified 'Green Event' from 2022 - will also actively address the topic of alternative fuels in the festival and be mindful of the CO2 footprint of a major event.
The area where the Classic Days will take place from August 5 - 7, 2022, will be temporarily called "Green Park" for the duration of the 3-day event.
We are happy to refer to the lively but also relaxing park of the same name in London, which is close to the city. The Classic Days have always been "very British" ... Green ... but that is also the orientation of the event and, in addition to many beloved topics, also the possible shoulder view into the mobility of the future ... be it with old or new vehicles.
All parts of the Classic Days that our fans, participants, visitors and guests know will remain part of the Classic Days: there will be a circuit for the demonstration runs of the museums, manufacturers and collectors ... the old camping caravans will pitch their tents, Lovely Heroes will recall the economic miracle era and 'Made in Germany' the old delivery vans and transporters with historic advertising. Lots of charm and style can be found in the "Charm & Style" area, while US cars can be found in the Stars & Stripes area. One-off coachbuilt cars can be admired in the Concours and almost 100 clubs, IGs and brand and type communities use the Classic Days to meet up."
The new location with more space will also allow the realization of a VW Bulli meeting and a large Land Rover meeting. Dealer areas, food courts and café islands will complete the picture.
Putting their heart and soul into the preparations
The entire Classic Days team is already in the midst of intensive preparations. The contract concluded for the inquiry, applications, approval, implementation and realization of the "Classic Days - Experience Düsseldorf" concept is a long-term one.
The date for the Classic Days 2022 has of course already been set: the first "Düsseldorf Classic Days" will take place from August 5 to 7, 2022. We can look forward to it, even if one or two fans will certainly shed a tear or two for the historic Dyck surroundings ...
