At the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham, Silverstone Auctions will once again be auctioning 128 vehicles, the majority of which are vintage and classic cars. The total value of the vehicles on offer amounts to £ 7.025 million (EUR 7.9 million, CHF 8.5 million). An average of £ 61,000 (EUR 68,300, CHF 74,000) per lot is expected.
Broad spectrum
There is something of everything, as a first glance at the lot list shows. The majority of the cars are from between 1960 and 1990, but a pre-war Clement Talbot from 1923 and an almost new Bentley Mulsanne will also be auctioned.
38 brands are represented, with Porsche making the biggest appearance with 16 vehicles, followed by Ford (14), Jaguar (12), Ferrari (12), Bentley (9) and Rolls-Royce (6). You can feel that you are in Great Britain.
The first production Lotus Elite
Not the most expensive car, that would be a Lotus Countach LP 400 S with an estimate of £350,000 to £400,000, but certainly one of the most exciting of the sale is a 1958 Lotus Elite.
This is actually chassis MYH/1009P, the first production Elite from Lotus according to Silverstone. The car was exhibited new at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1958 and then bought by Chris Barber, a jazz legend and friend of Colin Chapman, and registered with the license plate "CB 23". He drove the aerodynamic sports car in many races and with various drivers, including Sir John Whitmore, Mike Beckwith and Bob Olthoff. But he also took the wheel himself. In 1963, the car won its class in the Tourist Trophy at Goodwood.
The car has just been freshly restored and is now said to be worth £75,000 to £100,000.
The German Super-Evos
Silverstone can offer two special evolutionary models of German touring cars. One is a BMW M3 E30 from 1990 as an Evo III, of which only 600 were built between 1989 and 1990.
With less than 100,000 km (65,002 miles) on the clock, the BMW is now expected to fetch £95,000 to £115,000.
The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II from 1990, which is number 28 of 500 vehicles produced, is similarly sporty and priced.
With 25,500 miles on the clock, the road-legal touring car is now expected to cost £100,000 to £115,000.
Incidentally, both cars are left-hand drive and therefore also interesting for non-islanders.
Other interesting lots include 315, an Aston Martin DBS from 1969 with Vantage specification, a Datsun 240 Z from 1973 as a "Super Samuri", a Ford Capri Baordspeed Turbo from 1972, a Ford Escort Cosworth from 1993, as well as two Porsche 930 Turbo with flat snouts.
The estimated prices are still comparatively high for Central Europeans despite the favorable pound. But who knows, perhaps bargains are possible for one or the other lot.
