On November 15 and 16, 2013, Silverstone Auctions auctioned 107 cars at the NEC Classic Motor Show near Birmingham. The total value of the vehicles amounted to around £ 3 to 3.5 million. The sales result finally settled at £ 2.7 million (€ 3.25 million or CHF 4 million), which meant that a vehicle cost an average of £ 33,090 (€ 39,708 or CHF 48,643) (including surcharges/commissions).

23% of the cars offered could not be sold, four of the original 111 lots had already been withdrawn before the auction.
The sales prices leveled off at around the estimated prices, but a number of sports cars sold well above expectations, including a 1958 Aston Martin DB 2/4 Mk III, a 1965 Aston Martin DB 5 Saloon, a 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS and a 1962 Jaguar Mk II 3.8, all of which achieved around 30% more than the median estimate.
Surprise Lister Jaguar XJS 7.0 Litre Le Mans Coupé
The most expensive car compared to the estimated price, however, was the Lister Jaguar XJS 7.0 Litre Le Mans Coupé from 1990. At £ 57,500 (€ 69,000 or CHF 84,525), the red Lister Jag clearly exceeded the estimated price of £ 25,000 to 30,000.
The vehicle on offer was also something special. Just 20 examples of this extensively performance-enhanced XJS "Le Mans" were built around the end of the 1980s, with an output of over 600 hp, which made the sports car over 300 km/h fast. The seven-liter on offer with chassis number 037LJ04LM was sold as a new car (new price £ 160,000) to the royal family of Brunei and stored for its entire life, as the mileage is said to still be in four figures.
The roundelay of hot Ford derivatives
A whole host of hot Ford saloons were auctioned off at the NEC Show, including two Ford Lotus Cortina's that went for £20,000, three Sierra Cosworth's, the most expensive of which was worth £27,600 (€33,120 or CHF40,900) to its new owner.
There was also a 1985 Ford RS 200 for sale (£ 105,800, € 126,960, CHF 155,526), several Capris and a 1990 Escort Mk 4 RS Turbo.
Fangio's everyday transportation with a celebrity twist
IKA (Industrias Kaiser Argentina) was a car manufacturer in Argentina, the country where five-time world champion Juan Manuel Fangio was born. 1,558 IKA Torino 380S were built between 1968 and 1970, the result of a collaboration with Battista Pinin Farina, which Fangio had initiated. Fangio received the car from the manufacturer and drove it himself for several years until other family members took over the wheel, not least because Fangio became President of Mercedes Benz Argentina.
The car, which had not yet cleared customs in England, was sold for £ 28,175 (€ 33,810 or CHF 41,417), which must surely be a world record for an IKA.
Two "barn finds"
In 2012, a Triumph Italia 2000 was discovered in Madrid that had once been newly registered in Spain. It has 70,000 kilometers on the clock, but without extensive restoration, the elegant Vignale sports car, which is said to be the 30th of 329 examples produced, is no gem. At £24,500, the sale price was within the estimate range of £23,000 to £28,000, but the real costs for the owner are only just beginning.

An Austin Mini Cooper S Mk 1, built in May 1967, hasn't turned a wheel for 32 years. Unfortunately, the garage in which the little Briton was stored was not watertight, and the work of destruction left behind by rust was correspondingly extensive. On the plus side were a mileage of 36,335 and the fact that these Cooper S models are naturally highly sought-after. Offered without a reserve price, the Mini reached £ 17,825 (€ 21,390 or CHF 26,203).

The Porsche 911 Carrera from 1984, which had the look of the '74 RS model, was a cheaper way to get your dream classic. The beautifully presented Zuffenhausen sports car in Viper Green cost just £13,250 (Euro 15,900 or CHF 19,478), with the conversion costs alone likely to have swallowed up more money.
