In the fall of 2016, a new rally is set to cause a stir in Bulgaria; the Classic Marathon Rally Zlatni. Its role model has a long history, which is now to be revived. The "new" rally is to be held on the same route as back then.
History of the Rally Zlatni
The Rally Zlatni Piasatzi has a 40-year history, which began in 1970.
From 1970 to 2001, the towns of Zlatni Piasatzi (Golden Sands) and Albena were the main venues for the event. It was part of the European Rally Championship and was known as one of the toughest rallies. The start was on the coast of the Black Sea and over three days and nights the route led through the towns of Shumen and Sliven to the center of Bulgaria and then back to the coast. Some of the trickiest gravel and asphalt roads were part of the rally and made it a challenge for many well-known rally drivers.
In 2002, the main venue of the rally was then moved to the south of Bulgaria and now takes place in Borovets in the Rila Mountains.
Premiere in 2016 for the revival
The Bulgarian rally will celebrate its debut from September 26 to October 2, 2016. The distance that the participants have to cover is around 1400 kilometers.
Vehicles built up to 1990 are permitted to take part and are divided into two groups: Competition and Regularity. The rally will be held in accordance with the FIA regulations for cross-country rallies and historic rallies.
Registrations can be submitted until July 31, 2016, the entry fee is 3,100 euros (until January 31, 2016) or 3,800 euros (for registrations from February 1 until the registration deadline).
Further information will soon be available on the event website, which is currently still under construction.
