Mileages in the five-digit or even four-digit range have a magical attraction for many car enthusiasts. Logically, the less a car has been driven, the less opportunity wear and tear and rust have had to wreak their havoc. The Catawiki auction, which runs until May 31 at 9 p.m., is offering 17 five- to 41-year-old cars whose counters have never had to use the sixth cogwheel.
Three times under 1000
In the offer with the lowest mileage, the three digits in front of it still show the virgin zero. The Fiat Panda 4x4 "Climbing" from 2003 has covered just 59 kilometers in its leisurely life. As a new car, it came to a Fiat dealer in Andorra, where it has stood motionless and unsold in the shop window ever since. Estimated price for the silver-grey Kraxler: 19,800 to 22,000 euros.
The 2006 Subaru Impreza offered from the Netherlands has come a little further. The dark blue all-wheel-drive sedan was allowed to drive 98 kilometers before it was put away. The new car is said to be worth between 18,250 and 20,250 euros to a buyer. The original petrol pump that broke down due to inactivity (and was therefore replaced) is included with the purchase.
At 107 kilometers, the Fiat 238 E has almost twice the mileage of its brand colleague. Nevertheless, it is also like new. It was purchased by an Italian family in 1982 for a move that never took place. According to expert estimates, the beige window bus is worth between 13,500 and 15,000 euros and is the oldest vehicle on offer at the auction.
Well-traveled Benze
In contrast, the 2008 Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG with almost 83,000 kilometers is almost a long-distance vehicle. The tin-top convertible imported from Japan is now in the Netherlands and is expected to fetch between 53,000 and 85,500 euros. The Mercedes-Benz C 220 CDI sports coupé from 2006, which has a good 76,000 kilometers on the clock, has also traveled relatively far. It is said to be worth 7500 to 9000 euros.
For just over half this price, you can get the cheapest short-distance runner in the auction: an Austin Metro Special from 1990, which has accumulated 48,000 kilometers and is expected to cost between 4500 and 5500 euros. The most expensive car in the auction, an Alfa Romeo 4C, is expected to fetch between 77,000 and 85,000 euros.
Care is a must
Two very different cars on offer prove that mileage is not always a clear indication of the state of preservation: the 1999 Chevrolet Corvette already looks quite worn in the interior despite its low mileage of 69,000 kilometers. While the 1986 Lancia Thema 2.0 i.e. still has its factory plastic protection film on the door panels after almost 43,000 kilometers.
It's best to see for yourself. All other offers as well as additional pictures and information on the respective cars can be found at Catawiki. Without exception, all are offered with a minimum price.
