Summary
212 cars (including two tractors) went under the hammer at RM/Sotheby's over two days at the Techno Classica in Essen. The average age of the vehicles was a youthful 37.5 years, which was mainly due to the fact that almost half of the cars were still youngtimers or neoclassics. With more than half of the lots being auctioned off without a reserve price, a good auction dynamic developed. While some cars changed hands for significantly less than expected, three sporty Lancia cars of more recent date fetched record prices. In the end, 84% of the cars were sold, not a bad result for the first RM auction in Germany. This auction report analyzes the results, showing all the cars and the atmosphere on site.

Preview (beginning of the article)
212 cars (including two tractors) went under the hammer at RM/Sotheby's on April 11 and 12, 2019 at the Techno Classica in Essen. The Canadian auction house ventured to Germany for the first time and occupied the entire Hall 1A of the classic car fair. There, all the cars were ready for inspection, but the cramped layout and artificial neon lighting hardly created a friendly atmosphere. Anyone who wanted to take a closer look at a car had to call an RM employee over. An invitation or bidder registration (EUR 50) was required to attend the auction. For this reason, there were probably always enough empty chairs during the two days.
