On May 24 and 25, 2025, Broad Arrow Auctions will be the official auction partner of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este for the first time. In future, the auctions, which previously only took place every two years, will be held annually.
A total of 71 vehicles (including two motorcycles and a boat) will go under the hammer in Cernobbio. The focus of the first day will be on BMW cars (and a motorcycle), supplemented by an Elva BMW racing car. The second day is then primarily dedicated to super classics that could also be on the Concours lawn.
German manufacturers dominate
With 14 BMWs, eight Mercedes-Benzes and seven Porsches, German car manufacturers account for over a third of the cars. On average, the vehicles are 47 years old and valued at EUR 701,725. 39% of the vehicles will go under the hammer without a reserve price.
In addition to the brands already mentioned, Ferrari is also well represented with seven cars, while all other brands have a maximum of three vehicles on the lot list. There are some exotic cars, such as Talbot-Lago, Elva, Lagonda, Siata and Stanguellini.
Special BMW vehicles on Saturday
With 13 BMW cars, a BMW motorcycle and an Elva-BMW Mk8 racing sports car, Saturday is primarily dedicated to the blue and white brand.
The range of vehicles is wide and includes both super classics and almost-new cars such as a BMW M2 CS or an M3 GTS. On average, the BMWs (excluding motorcycles) are 37 years old.
The flagship of Saturday's auction is certainly the BMW 507 from 1958 with a unique history, as it only changed hands twice and was the first owner until 2004. The largely unrestored car was estimated at EUR 2 to 2.3 million.
Two BMW M1s will also go under the hammer. One was originally delivered to pop musician Frank Farian in Procar livery in red and is now expected to cost EUR 450,000 to 550,000.
The second white M1 is a production M1 that was in the same ownership between 1987 and 2016, but had previously traveled extensively. Originally painted in orange, the mid-engined sports car is now expected to fetch EUR 475,000 to 575,000.
Three BMW M3s from the E30 era will go under the hammer at Broad Arrow on May 24, 2025, estimated at EUR 65,000 to 110,000.
Rarities include the limited edition Alpina Roadster based on the BMW Z1 from 1991, estimated at EUR 120,000 to 150,000, and a Z3 M Coupé from 1999, which is expected to cost EUR 75,000 to 85,000. The majority of BMW vehicles are offered without a minimum price.
Worth millions
A good dozen of the cars on offer in Cernobbio are expected to clearly exceed the million mark.
The most expensive estimate was for an early Ferrari 166 Spyder from 1948 with Ansaloni bodywork. EUR 5.5 to 7.5 million is the estimate here.
The Talbot-Lago T150 C with coup bodywork by Figoni et Falaschi is also expected to be very expensive. Estimates range from EUR 4.5 to 6.5 million, although no minimum bid is required.
The particularly valuable classics also include two almost-new cars, namely a Pagani Huayra R from 2022 (EUR 2.8 to 3.2 million) and a Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 from 2022 (EUR 2.3 to 2.5 million), while a Ferrari F40 in Competizione from 1989 can be expected to sell for a very high price of between EUR 2.3 and 2.8 million.
A Ferrari 275 GTS from 1965, a Siata 208S Motto Spider from 1954, two Mercedes-Benz 300 SLs (as a roadster and gullwing) as well as another Talbot-Lago, a Ferrari 250 GT Lusso and a Porsche Carrera GT are also expected to make it into the million-dollar league.
Super classics for the drive
In addition to the million-dollar classics, Broad Arrow will also be offering more affordable cars at auction, with estimated values starting at EUR 40,000. Most of the bargains will go under the hammer without a reserve price.
We could mention an Audi Quattro 20V from 1990, for example, which is looking for a new owner for EUR 130,000 to 150,000.
EUR 100,000 to 150,000 has been set for a Mercedes-Benz 190 SL from 1960; a Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster from 1962 can also be bought at auction for the same "price".
You can get into a Porsche 356 B 1600 Super Coupé from 1961 for as little as EUR 80,000 to 90,000, while its open-top brother, the Super 90 Cabriolet from 1963, is expected to be considerably more expensive at EUR 200,000 to 250,000.
A yellow Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 from 1973 is to find a new owner for EUR 425,000 to 450,000.
Several other Mercedes-Benz, an Aston Martin DB5, a Maserati 3500 GT Vignale Spyder, a Lancia Aurelia B24 S Convertible and two Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 are also looking for a new garage space.
Exotic cars
Of course, there is no shortage of exotic cars at Broad Arrow.
A Lotus Esprit V8 Sport 350 from 1999, for example, which is offered for a humane EUR 40,000 to 60,000.
The 1990 Citroën ZX Rallye Raid, which is looking for a driver for EUR 475,000 to 525,000, is also almost unique.
The Honda NSX-R from 2003 is also rare in this country, and the estimated value of EUR 750,000 to 950,000 is correspondingly high.
The 1955 Jaguar XK 140 coupé by Ghia, which does not meet all aesthetic requirements, is a one-off and is expected to cost EUR 200,000 to 300,000.
Racing cars such as the Maserati 6CM from 1936 or the Elva BMW Mk8 are of course also rare.
And the same naturally also applies to the road-legal Mille Miglia candidates Stanguellini 1100 Sport Internationale from 1947 or Fiat 570 Bertone Barchetta Special from 1936. The asking prices are correspondingly high.
Broad Arrow's offer is certainly impressive, and the results of the first auction at the Concorso will be correspondingly exciting. Further information and many photos can be found on the Broad Arrow website.
