50 years ago, the then Federal Minister of Transport, Dr. Hans-Christoph Seebohm, officially opened the new stadium-like Motodrom at the Hockenheimring after an extensive reconstruction phase. This set the course for Hockenheim as a stronghold of professional motorsport in Germany for many decades to come. From then on, the premier classes of motorsport, Formula 1, Formula 2, the Interseries as well as the DRM/DTM and the Hockenheimring belonged together. Formula 1 and the DTM still make guest appearances at the Motodrom today.
13 Series
In the Motodrom's anniversary year, the Bosch Hockenheim Historic will open the season from April 15 to 17, 2016, with participants from all over Europe battling for positions in 13 series. With the wide range of vehicles, the organizer ensures that the top classes are represented. As a result, the Bosch Hockenheim Historic offers a spectrum of formula cars like no other historic event in Europe.
During the special races of the Raceclub Germany Historic, Formula 1 and Formula 2 monoposti from five decades will captivate the spectators.
CanAm racers and Interseries
The main focus this year will also be on the sports prototypes, as the CanAm series is also celebrating its 50th anniversary. In 1966, the almost fearsome displacement giants began competing with two races in Canada (Can) and four races in the United States of America (Am) for the Group 7 sports cars of the time. These were racing cars that were mostly produced in small numbers or even as one-offs.
The counterpart to the CanAm in Europe was the Interseries, which had a permanent place in the racing calendar at the Hockenheimring from 1970 onwards. To mark the anniversary, there will be a CanAm racing class as well as demonstration runs with numerous additional Interserie vehicles. Porsche sports prototypes such as the 908 and 917 will play a dominant role here.
Touring cars
In the Youngtimer Touring Car Challenge, DRM and DTM vehicles from different eras will compete, i.e. racing touring cars with more or less series proximity.
Porsche special run
The Herbert Linge Cup will be held for the first time. The Porsche Center Mannheim, Penske Sportwagenzentrum GmbH, is organizing this cup in memory of the extraordinarily diverse achievements of the Porsche veteran. Linge, who will be present in person, will be honored with numerous exhibits from the Porsche Museum. One of his outstanding achievements, for example, was the founding of the ONS safety squadron.
Visitors to the memorial event for Scottish Formula 1 world champion Jim Clark will be thrilled by the thrilling motorsport and the open paddock, where they can follow the teams' preparations up close without barriers. The comprehensive supporting program makes the Bosch Hockenheim Historic particularly family-friendly.
And much more
Nobody has to be bored in Hockenheim. In addition to the racing and demonstration runs, there will be autograph sessions and the design award ceremony for racing cars as well as a special Jim Clark exhibition.
Family-friendly admission prices make the motorsport weekend perfect. Admission on the Friday of the event costs 10 euros. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday start at 25 euros and the weekend ticket is available for 35 euros. Wheelchair users and children under the age of 14 have free admission for the entire weekend.
