The Borgward Group was founded in Germany almost a hundred years ago by visionary Carl F.W. Borgward. Between 1929 and 1961, over one million vehicles were produced under the Borgward, Goliath and Lloyd brands and sold all over the world.
A childhood dream becomes reality
54 years after the demise of Borgward, the brand is revived under Christian Borgward. The grandson of Carl F.W. Borgward is thus realizing a childhood dream. On March 3, 2015, Borgward AG will present its plans for the future at this year's Geneva International Motor Show (March 5 to 15). An initial design study will also be presented.
Rebirth with Chinese help
Borgward AG, based in Lucerne, Switzerland, was founded in 2008 and is now managed by Christian Borgward and former GM and Mercedes manager Karlheinz Knöss. However, the brand rights for Borgward were sold to the Chinese company Beigi Foton Motor in March 2014.
The Chinese commercial vehicle giant is said to be behind the brand's renaissance. Foton had already announced that it would be launching several models under the Borgward name from 2015.
