For several years now, the Zoute Grand Prix, which also includes a major Concours d'Elégance, has also included a Bonhams auction in Knokke-Heist i(Belgium). On October 9, 2022, the British auction house will once again bring an exquisite selection of classic cars under the hammer. The 74 automobiles, which will be offered alongside some automobilia, children's cars and motorcycles, are worth a total of around EUR 28.7 million, so each car is expected to fetch around EUR 390,000.
By European standards, a high proportion, namely 59 percent, will be sold without a minimum price.
Low pre-war share
Only two cars, a Bugatti Type 30 from 1924 and a BMW 327/328 Sport Cabriolet from 1939, are from the pre-war period.
All other cars were built after the Second World War. The average age of the cars is 46 years. Of course, the 22 vehicles that left the factory after 1990 are primarily responsible for the low average age.
Mercedes-Benz ahead of Ferrari and Porsche
The Mercedes-Benz (10 vehicles), Ferrari (9) and Porsche (9) brands stand out in the range.
Aston Martin is represented with seven cars, Rolls-Royce with six. Of the remaining 20 or so brands, no more than a handful of cars are on site.
Walter Wolf's Ferrari 288 GTO
The Ferrari 288 GTO from 1985 with chassis number ZFFPA16B000054783 is set to be the most expensive car in the auction. The red sports car was delivered by Garage Foitek to F1 team boss Walter Wolf, who is also known to have driven a Lamborghini Countach specially customized for him.
To date, Wolf and subsequent owners have driven just 25,600 km. Now the GTO is to find a new owner for EUR 3.7 to 4.1 million.
Factory Alpine
The Renault Alpine A110 1600 S from 1970 in Group 4 configuration is a works car. The car was entered by a privateer in the French Rally Championship in 1971, but previously took part in the WRC Tour de Corse with Vinatier/Murac as a team and drove in the Criterium des Dévennes with De Cortanze/Roure as pilot/co-driver.
After its active use, the car was in the collection of the Swiss Peter Müller for many years. As an asphalt car, this Berlinette is certainly well suited for the Tour Auto, but EUR 180,000 to 200,000 should change hands beforehand.
Super classic roundelay
Over 60 percent of the vehicles at the Bonhams auction can be classified as super classics, which is certainly a high proportion and a sign that the Bonhams team has been able to attract interesting cars to the auction.
There is no shortage of a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing or a Lamborghini Miura. There is also a Maserati Bora for sale and five Aston Martins from the David Brown era, including two DB4s as a convertible and a coupé with a GT engine.
In addition to the aforementioned 288 GTO, Ferrari also offers a 250 GT/L "Lusso" from 1963, a 250 GT Series II Cabriolet from 1961, a 250 GTE from 1962, a 330 GT 2+2 from 1966 and a 365 GTC/4 from 1972, as well as a 308 GTB from 1979 and a 512 TR.
The Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 from 1972 as a Touring Coupé, estimated at EUR 550,000 to 750,000, should not go unmentioned. Also of interest could be a 914/6 from 1971 in a magnificent signal orange livery, which the car has apparently worn since the beginning.
BMW fans can buy a 507 from 1957, which is expected to fetch between EUR 2 and 2.5 million.
Of course, the Jaguar E-Types are not missing either, represented by two Series 1 examples and a Series 3 twelve-cylinder.
The bidding war for one of the two or three Bertone-bodied Jaguar XK150s, estimated at between € 800,000 and € 1 million, will be interesting.
Modern shooting brakes
Collectors of newer but particularly rare cars may be interested in the two sports station wagons that Bonhams has to offer based on a 2015 Rolls-Royce Wraith and a Maserati Quattroporte.
The two rarities, named "Silver Spectre" and "Bellagio Bastback Shooting Brake", are expected to fetch EUR 300,000 to 350,000 and EUR 150,000 to 200,000 respectively.
Many young cars
Two Mercedes-Benz SLRs are on offer at Bonhams, representing the youngest age segment.
There is also an SLS from 2011 and an SL65 AMG Black Series. There are also very young cars from Rolls-Royce, Ferrari and Porsche at the start, a sign that Bonhams also expects a lot of interest in young cars.
Further information and many pictures of the individual cars can be found on the Bonhams website.
