On the occasion of the Goodwood Members' Meeting, Bonhams will auction 102 automobiles and 90 memorabilia on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Almost two-thirds of the vehicles, estimated at over £8.6 million, are from the UK. 26% of the cars will be offered without a reserve price.
Jaguar, Ferrari, Aston and Rolls
Four brands account for over a third of the cars on offer, Jaguar with 14, Ferrari with 10 and Aston Martin and Rolls-Royce with seven cars each.
With an average age of 31 years, the Ferraris are particularly young, while this figure is 44 for Aston Martin, 58 for Jaguar and even 84 for Rolls-Royce.
Overall, the average age is almost 60 years, and as many as 22 cars were built before 1945. 14 cars are not yet youngtimers (20 years old), i.e. younger.
Many super classics
Of course, there will be no shortage of super classics at Bonhams in Goodwood, with three Aston Martin DB3s, two Austin-Healey 3000s, a Citroën DS 19 and six Ferraris from 1970 to 1999 coming under the hammer.
The range of Jaguar XK and E-Type variants is also extensive, with two XJSs rounding off the selection.
From Mercedes-Benz there is a 190 SL, a 280 SE Convertible and a 600 to buy.
Porsche is represented with three 911s from the sixties and seventies, plus a 928 and a 911 Carrera Targa from 1987.
Among other Rolls-Royce models, two Silver Ghosts and three Phantom limousines can be purchased.
And these are just a few examples from the large selection, which also includes a BMW 3.0 CSL or a Renault 5 Turbo 2.
Rare racing cars
In keeping with the setting of the auction, a number of racing cars will also go under the hammer.
Depending on your interests, you can bid on a Cooper T52 FJ, a Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback Saloon, a Kieft 1100 sports, a Crosley Almquist Sabre Roadster, an MG Q Type Monopsto or a Triumph TR7 V8 rally car, which was once used as a works car.
There are also some replicas of famous cars for sale, such as a Bristol 450 Le Mans, a Morris Mini Cooper S or a Vauxhall 16/20 Prince Henry.
Some exotics
There is no shortage of exotic cars either, such as the Lotus Elan S2 converted into a coupé by Shapecraft.
The very early automobiles such as the De Dion Bouton 10 HP from 1905 or the Renault BX 14/20 HP from 1909 are certainly among the rarer models.
You also don't see a Lanchester 23 HP Saloon Limousine from 1927 or an Alvis TG 12/50 HP from 1929 every day.
The Frazer Nash TT Replica Roadster from 1936 can also be counted among the exotics. The manufacturer was already building replicas of its racing cars at the time, but these are of course originals. The chain drive is a special feature of the TT Replica roadster. Delivered with a Gough engine, the compact sports car was later fitted with a BMW six-cylinder engine at the factory, which was replaced again in the course of its life. The last restoration was not so long ago and £ 150,000 to 200,000 is now being asked for.
