Robert White was a successful businessman who built up one of the most successful retail chains in the photography sector in Great Britain. The good sales and profits allowed him to indulge in his hobbies and build up an extensive collection of various objects, including, of course, cars and motorcycles, which is now being auctioned by Bonhams for a good cause, one year after his death.
The sale is expected to raise around two million pounds, which will be used in the fight against cancer in Dorset.
Several cars can be found among the 500 or so lots, including:
- Bentley 4.5 Litre Le Mans Tourer, vintage 1930 (estimate £450,000 to £550,000)
- 1959 AC Ace Bristol Roadster (estimate £ 180,000 to 220,000)
- AC Ace Roadster from 1958 (estimate: £ 120,000 to £ 140,000)
- Pur Sang Type 51 (estimate £ 90'000 to 110'000)
In addition to the cars, there are also some motorcycles to buy, including a Vincent Series C Black Shadow from 1951 or an MV Augusta Vieryzlinder GP machine (Recreation). There are also many watches and other collector's items.
However, White had already sold his Brough Superior motorcycles to Jay Leno before he died in 2015.
The auction will take place on September 19, 2016 on Bond Street at Bonhams, whose website provides information on the other lots and prices.
