With 44 automobiles, including a tractor, it is a small but fine selection of classics that Bonhams will be able to offer in Knokke-Heist on October 5, 2018 on the occasion of the Zoute Grand Prix.
The cars are all 50 years old, ranging in vintage from 1930 to 2018. On average, a car is expected to cost around EUR 223,000 or CHF 251,000.
Porsche and the others
With nine cars, Porsche is the most strongly represented brand, all other brands have a maximum of three vehicles, many are even only represented once.
By and large, these are well-known manufacturers, even if Derby, Healey, Elva or Arnolt-Bristol may no longer be familiar to some.
Aston Martin DB4 for one million
A black Aston Martin DB4 Vantage Series V from 1962 is estimated at between EUR 950,000 and 1.25 million.
This makes this coupé the most expensive car in the auction, followed by a Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Coupé from 1960, which is listed in the catalog at EUR 600,000 to 800,000.
Winged BMW 3.0 CSL
In Germany they were delivered without the rear wing fitted, but in other countries the rear spoiler was permitted. In any case, the BMW 3.0 CSL from 1973 with the wing is going under the hammer and is said to be good for EUR 240,000 to 300,000.
A British car that has more to do with BMW than its name suggests is similarly expensive.
The 1954 Bristol 404 was equipped with the same engine as the BMW 328 before the war, even if the straight-six engine had been further developed in the meantime. EUR 230,000 to 260,000 seems a confident estimate for what is probably the most elegant Bristol Coupé of the 1950s.
Hatchbacks with rally relatives
Two Renault 5 Turbo (with mid-engine) and a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 from 1995 come under the hammer in Knokke-Heist.
They are all estimated in the EUR 50,000 to 150,000 range, with the R5s at the upper end of this spectrum. What they have in common is their close relationship to the rally cars of the 1980s and 1990s.
Rare Porsche
Several Porsche sports cars built in relatively small numbers are on offer at Zoute. There is the 924 GT from 1980, built around 400 times and now estimated at EUR 70,000 to 90,000.
Approximately more examples of the 964 RS (1992) were produced, whether this justifies the expected EUR 320,000 to 360,000 remains to be seen.
But the Pre-A-Speedster 1600 from the 356 series from 1955, which was estimated at EUR 350,000 to 450,000, is likely to be really rare.
In comparison, the equally rare 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI from 1975 appears to be valued rather favorably at EUR 120,000 to 160,000.
Many exotics
Typical of Bonhams are the many rarities on offer, be it an Arnolt-Bristol Roadster from 1954, a Derbky K4 from 1930 or a Healey Silverstone from 1950.
A Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Convertible from 1970 is something special because of its first owner: Muhammed Ali, perhaps the most famous boxer of all time, once sat at the wheel.
Brand new Alpine A110
The brand-new Alpine A110 "Première Edition" from 2018 is also a special feature.
The first series is known to be sold out and perhaps the blue Alpine is the only way to get your hands on the coveted coupé quickly. The flounder was estimated at EUR 60,000 to 80,000, but like around 42 percent of the entire offer, it is being auctioned without a reserve price.
This group also includes the Mercedes-Benz 500 SL (R107) from 1989, estimated at EUR 70,000 to 90,000, with just over 25,000 on the clock and an extensive German history. It will be interesting to see whether the bidders will follow suit.
More information on the vehicles and many pictures can be found on Bonhams' website.
