On April 24, 2026, Bonhams will auction 43 predominantly high-priced automobiles as part of the 15th Grand Prix de Monaco Historique. One lot is expected to fetch an average of 390,000 euros. The estimated total value is between 15 and 18.5 million euros. In keeping with the auction venue, the majority of the cars on offer are racing and rally cars.
World champion
And it is precisely these that are causing the biggest shake of the head in disbelief: The Audi Quattro A2, in which future world champion Hannu Mikkola won the 1983 Rally Portugal and took part in the Monte-Carlo and Acropolis rallies, is expected to fetch between 900,000 and 1.2 million euros, according to the auction house! An ambitious estimate in our opinion, as the Sport Quattro, which is generally regarded as more valuable, usually only fetches half that amount.
The "world champion bonus" is likely to account for a not inconsiderable proportion of the estimate. The Quattro A2, also offered by Bonhams in Monaco and driven by Marc Duez in the 1983 season - which can boast just as many victories, namely one at the Haspengouw Rally - is expected to fetch "only" 350,000 to 500,000 euros.
Otherwise, a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster for 1.18 to 1.28 million euros is one of the usual contenders for the title of the most expensive classic car at the auction. The 1962 model with disc brakes is only surpassed by two almost-new cars: a Ferrari 812 Competizione Aperta from 2024 for an estimated 1.75 to 2 million euros and a Lamborghini Sián from 2021 for 2.1 to 2.5 million euros.
Rally or circuit
A Lancia Stratos formerly entered by the Jolly Club team takes bronze place among the most expensive classic cars in the catalog at 750,000 to 900,000 euros. Same brand, same racing team, but much more affordable: the Lancia Fulvia HF entered by Jolly Club has been estimated at 140,000 to 180,000 euros.
For those who prefer a less dusty experience, Monaco also offers the opportunity to put a complete DTM grid from the early 1990s in the garage in one go. Bonhams is offering a Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth (€275,000-375,000), a Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5 Evolution II (€375,000-550,000), a BMW M3 (€325,000-425,000) and an Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti (€500,000-600,000).
Pair formation
Two special editions of the Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione form another beautiful pair: one is a "Martini 5" from 1991 (€140,000-180,000), produced to celebrate the fifth World Rally Championship title, and the other is one of only 180 examples from the 1994 "Dealers Collection" (€100,000-140,000).
Bonhams also has two pieces on offer for lovers of Ferraris in rare colors: One of only 15 575M Maranello painted in "Grigio Ingrid" (€100,000-120,000), and one of only two Ferrari Testarossa combining a non-metallized dark blue with a cream interior (€280,000-380,000). For those who prefer a more traditional look, there is also an alternative - a 550 Maranello and a "Monospecchio" - in classic Ferrari red.
Beach and salon
For those who don't have as much money and just as little time, the three cars expected to be the cheapest are also the first three lots in the auction: an Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior (€25,000-35,000), a Jaguar 3.8 Litre Mark 2 (40,000-60,000) and a VW Beetle converted into a beach car just a few years ago (40,000-60,000).
Without motorsport fame, but still of tender fame, the lot with the number 121 should be mentioned in conclusion: It is the Citroën DS Cabriolet, which was exhibited at the Paris Motor Show in 1966. Between 150,000 and 200,000 euros are expected for the gray convertible, which, however, seems a little too dark for the specified color "Gris nacré". Especially as Citroën only offered this color from 1969 onwards. However, the metal plate in the engine compartment bears the code "AC 108" for "Gris Palladium", which matches the paint color and the year of manufacture much better.
