The "Sur Les Champs" auctions, named after the Champs-Elyséees in Paris, have already become a tradition. On November 1, 2020, Hervé Poulain will once again swing his hammer over 59 cars and five motorcycles/mopeds.
Versatile range
33 brands will be gathered in Paris, with Porsche being the most strongly represented with 12 cars, followed by Jaguar (6) and BMW, Fiat and Maserati with 3 cars each. French brands are also represented, albeit with a maximum of two cars, such as Alpine Chenard & Walcker, Citroën, Delage, Facel, Peugeot and Talbot.
On average, the vehicles are 49 years old. As many as five vehicles date from the pre-war period, while at the other end of the spectrum there are nine youngtimers and five neoclassics.
In total, the 64 vehicles were estimated at EUR 6.2 million, with an average of EUR 104,220 expected per car. 26 vehicles (or 40% of the offer) will go under the hammer without a reserve price.
The special AC Ace Bristol
With only two owners and just 18,000 km on the clock, the AC Ace Bristol from 1960 with chassis number BEX1064 is certainly one of the exceptional examples. Newly imported to France, it has the steering wheel on the left.
However, anyone imagining a car in new car condition should take a closer look at the catalog pictures. Although the car is complete and very original, it is also a garage find that has probably not been moved for many years.
Estimates range from EUR 300,000 to 500,000, but who wouldn't want to own one of these sports cars, which were described as being among the best at the time?
The 100,000-km gullwing
A Mercedes-Benz 300 SL from 1955, which has (presumably) covered 99,345 km to date, is said to cost EUR 1.1 to 1.3 million.
The car was restored in the late nineties and has been in the same ownership for over 48 years. The car is well documented and the on-board tools are also present.
Chenard & Walcker Type Y8
The Chenard & Walcker is a restoration object with an innovative tank superstructure for the time, almost a pontoon body.
The 1928 car, which is unfortunately missing its engine, is comparatively complete and is now expected to cost EUR 20,000 to 30,000 (sans reserve).
A selection of super classics
In addition to the cars already mentioned, there are many super classics for sale at Artcurial, including the Citroën DS 19 convertible from 1964 (EUR 160,000 to 190,000).
A Dino 246 GT from 1972 (EUR 300,000 to 400,000) and several Jaguar E-Type Series 1s (EUR 80,000 to 130,000) are also on offer.
The Facel Vega FV4 from 1957 (EUR 150,000 to 180,000) or the Maserati Borad 4700 from 1972 (EUR 150,000 to 200,000) are certainly somewhat more exotic.
And then there are a number of Porsche 356s and 911s, as well as two VW Bus T1s, one of which is a Samba with 23 windows (EUR 70,000 to 90,000).
Also of interest are the two Sunbeam Tiger V8s from 1965 (EUR 45,000 to 90,000).
Young classics too
Among the younger cars, an Alpine GTA V6 from 1990 (EUR 35,000 to 55,000), a Honda NSX from 1991 (EUR 50,000 to 70,000) and an Alfa Romeo 155 Q4 from 1992 (EUR 10,000 to 15,000) stand out.
The youngest car is a Lotus Elise SC Clark Type 25 from 2009, which will have to wait a while longer to achieve youngtimer status.
More information about the vehicles and many photos can be found on the auction house's website.
