Summary
167 cars (as well as a boat and a caravan) from the collection of racing driver, politician and camping pioneer André Trigano were auctioned off on September 13 in Gibel, in the southwest of France. The vehicles were on average 66 years old and in a wide variety of conditions. Artcurial had estimated the vehicles cautiously in view of the fact that some of them had been in a museum for years, but the bidders saw things differently and went on average 2.7 times over the estimated value. In total, EUR 3.85 million was raised instead of the expected EUR 2.74 million. A Fiat 500 D was sold for 22 times its estimate, while a special Peugeot fetched 60 times as much as expected. In contrast, the top lots - Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2, Lancia Aurelia Spider, Facel-Vega HK500 and Aston Martin DBS V8 - sold around their estimated values. This article analyzes the auction results and shows all the vehicles in pictures.

Preview (beginning of the article)
At some point, enough is enough, André Trigano said to himself. At over 90, other things become important. Four years ago, the senior had already had around 50 Citroëns auctioned off by Artcurial, and now another 167 cars that he had acquired during his active collecting days have followed. A boat, a caravan and several model and children's cars as well as automobilia also went under the hammer. André Trigano fell in love with cars at an early age. He took part in the Tour de France, Le Mans and the Monte Carlo Rally, which he could even have won. He was a camping pioneer when he expanded his father's tent business and made it flourish. And he was a politician for decades. But his love of the automobile never died out.
