The 41st edition of the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix promises drivers and fans a top-class vintage and classic car festival. From August 9 to 11, 2013, Germany's most traditional automobile club invites visitors to the Nürburgring. Visitors can look forward to a program that combines familiar highlights of the event with new and spectacular elements.
Porsche celebrates 50 years of the 911
As a long-standing partner of the event, Porsche Classic will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the immortal classic Porsche 911 sports car. The highlight will be a Porsche 911 parade on the Grand Prix circuit.
BMW with three anniversaries
The anniversary race celebrating the 35th birthday of the legendary BMW M1 and the 40th anniversary of the BMW 3.0 CSL also promises emotional moments. Anyone who experienced the starter field of the BMW special race in 2012, which was packed with motorsport stars and excellent vehicles, knows this: This is a race no classic car fan should miss. The Munich-based team will also be commemorating Nelson Piquet's Formula 1 World Championship title win 30 years ago.
At the Nürburgring, BMW will celebrate the anniversaries with prominent guests and fascinating vehicles. Among them will be Piquet's 1983 Formula 1 world champion car and the winner of the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans, the BMW V12 LMR.
30 years after breaking the Nüburgring sound barrier
Porsche will also be celebrating a very special anniversary. In 1983, Stefan Bellof broke a magical sound barrier when he was the first and still the only driver to lap the legendary Nordschleife at an average speed of over 200 km/h in the Porsche 956 during training for the 1000-kilometer race.
Formula 1, sports car fascination and Nordschleife flair
The rest of the racing program is also full of treats. Grand Prix history will be brought back to life when the pre-war racing cars, the "Historic Grand Prix Cars" of the early Formula 1 years and the Grand Prix Masters with the three-liter Formula 1 models take to the track.
The two-seater racing cars and GTs up to 1960/61 as well as the World Sportscar Masters bring sports car history close enough to touch. The Masters GT and the revival race of the German Racing Championship as well as the Jaguar Challenge will offer the best sport with classic touring cars and GTs, which will once again ring in the weekend.
Traditional races still part of the program
On the Friday before the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix, the traditional AvD Historic Marathon will be held on the Nordschleife. The international reputation of the event is underlined by the renewed accolade of the International Automobile Federation that has once again awarded a round of the FIALurani Trophy for Formula Junior cars to the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix: The small formula racers from the late 50s are always among the crowd's favorites at the Ring.
