From August 22 to 24, 60 rally teams with vehicles from 20 different manufacturers will drive around 600 km with a stopwatch on roads around Saalbach over three days.
Diverse starting field
The oldest vehicle at the Saalbach Classic 2013, a Mercedes SSK built in 1929, will start the prologue from the ramp in the center of Saalbach towards Walleggalm with start number 1 on 22 August at 17:01.
In total, more than 60 teams from 5 nations will be competing in 20 different makes of car. In addition to the SSK, the starting list for the 1st Saalbach Classic 2013 includes rarities from AC, Alfa, Alvis, Austin Healey, BMW, Bugatti, Datsun, Ferrari, Ford, Fiat, Jaguar, Lancia, MG, Morgan, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Triumph, Volvo and VW.
In addition to the aforementioned SSK, there is also an AC Ace, a Maserati Mistral, a Volvo 123 GT, an early Morgan from 1952, an MG K3 Mille Miglia from 1933 or a Rover Meteor Speed 20, for example, alongside various Porsche 356 and 911, Triumph TR models and classics from Mercedes and MG.
Participants from Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, the USA and Austria will tackle the 600 km route over the three days of the rally. There are 22 special stages (cutting and timing stages) to be completed to the nearest hundredth of a second.
Not just rally stress
However, the masters of road books and stopwatches do not have to work non-stop with maximum concentration.
Due to the route planning, there is enough time to pause, stop and enjoy. That is the motto for the three days of the rally. The main theme of the Saalbach Classic will certainly come up in the evening over fine culinary delights - namely the speed, the friends, the Glockner and Walter (Röhrl), the world champion.
Three stages
The Saalbach-Classic 2013 starts on Thursday, 22 August at 5.01 pm with the prologue, followed by the 350 km long Glockner loop on Friday, 23 August and the finish after the 220 km Bavarian loop on Saturday, 24 August at 4 pm in the center of Saalbach.
Also interesting for spectators
Classic car fans along the route can look forward to seeing valuable cars and prominent drivers at this premiere edition.
Annemarie Moser-Pröll, honored as ski athlete of the century, will be behind the wheel of a Porsche at the Saalbach Classic, as will Olympic champion Stephan Eberharter, who won two world championship titles in Saalbach in 1991, and Marc Girardelli, who has four gold world championship medals hanging at home alongside his many trophies.
