A thrilling history makes a grand entrance - Volkswagen presents an interactive special exhibition on motor racing at the DRIVE. Volkswagen Group Forum. To mark the 50th anniversary of Volkswagen Motorsport, the retrospective can be seen from September 5 to October 30, 2016 at the VW Group Forum in Berlin on Friedrichstrasse/Unter den Linden. The exhibition features eight dynamically staged exhibits, framed by various interactive modules that use video, audio and image installations to bring the fascination of motorsport over five decades to life.
From the Group A Rally World Champion Golf and the Race Touareg, which was successful in the Dakar Rally, to the current World Champion Polo from the World Rally Championship and rarities such as the Bimotor Golf for the legendary Pikes Peak race, the spotlight is on truly unique vehicles from motorsport history. In addition to Volkswagen's rally legends, circuit exhibits can also be seen at DRIVE - such as a Formula Vee monoposto from the 1960s, which marked the beginning of the brand's motorsport history, and a current Golf GTI TCR from Volkswagen's customer sport program.
Informative insights into the themed worlds of "Teamwork", "Technology", "Sound", "Service", "Adventure" and "Success" make the fascination of motorsport a tangible and tangible experience for visitors. Interactive exhibition elements guide visitors through the history of Volkswagen Motorsport. Visitors are guided through the exhibition in various stages.
Volkswagen Motorsport in fast motion - from 1966 to the present day
On July 11, 1966, Volkswagen Motorsport - then known as the Formel V Europa e. V. association - is founded in Munich. The popular Formula Vee and Formula Super Vee racing series, in which Keke Rosberg, Niki Lauda and Helmut Marko begin their careers, mark the beginning.
In Formula 3, the careers of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher, Le Mans record winner Tom Kristensen and DTM record champion Bernd Schneider, among others, will be accelerated.
Volkswagen later became involved in top-level rally sport on the factory side, initially with success in the Dakar Rally. The Wolfsburg-based brand has been competing in the World Rally Championship again since 2013, winning nine WRC titles in the first three years.
