The date for the 44th edition of the 2016 AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix has been set. From August 12 to 14, 2016, numerous historic racing cars will once again compete against each other in over 20 races and regularity tests.
A jam-packed weekend
The AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix offers a packed weekend with a dozen historic racing classes. Probably the most popular classic racing event in continental Europe will once again present a breathtaking show with cars from almost all eras and disciplines. From pre-war vehicles to historic Formula 1 and sports cars from the 60s and 70s to touring cars and GTs, the range of vehicles spans seven decades. Exhibitions, presentations, club meetings and many other offers in the paddock and around the track make the visit worthwhile for motorsport enthusiasts and classic car experts alike.
Once again, all three historic circuit series of the FIA motorsport world governing body will be guests in the Eifel. The FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship for the Grand Prix cars of the Cosworth era and the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship for sports cars and prototypes up to 1974 are among the highlights of the weekend. The FIA Lurani Trophy for Formula Junior cars tells stories from the early days of junior racing, which will be retold in the Formula 3 car race from 1964 to 1984. The popular and atmospheric evening race for two-seater racing sports cars and GTs up to 1960/61 is once again part of the program, as is the Revival German Racing Championship. The Vintage Sports Car Trophy for pre-war racing cars is dedicated to the early years of motorsport.
Together with the Allgemeiner Schnauferl-Club (ASC), there will once again be an extensive program for the weekend's oldest vehicles in 2016, which will be housed in the Nürburgring's historic paddock in the perfect original setting. The early Grand Prix years will also be highlighted with the Historic Grand Prix Cars up to 1960. The program is rounded off by races for touring cars and GTs. These will once again include the Jaguar Heritage Challenge and the regularity tests of the DTM / STW Revival as well as the Gentlemen Drivers of the Masters GT series.
