The AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix (August 8 to 10, 2014) will offer visitors a number of innovations this year that will make the event even more attractive. The focus will be on the use of new technologies that will make the fascination of historic racing technology even more tangible.
Live images
For the first time, there will be live images from the classic cars on the Internet - an innovation that will give spectators the action from the racing cars from the perspective of the Fangios, Carraciolas and Stucks for the first time. In addition, there will be video reporting during the event days, which will summarize the onboard recordings with the most atmospheric moments on and off the track every day.
GPS tracking
The AvD Historic Marathon on Friday will also feature GPS tracking of the most attractive vehicles: Those who want to follow the tradition-steeped endurance race will be able to keep track of where the leaders and chasers are on the route at all times.
Covered paddock
But there are also new things to discover in the paddock: The starting fields of the individual races will be housed in new types of tents whose walls are completely transparent. In the paddock covered in this way, the valuable motorsport veterans can now be admired up close in all weathers - even when the tent is closed, the treasures from seven decades of technological evolution are always present.
BMW presents super sports car
The starting fields for BMW races and the Bavarian demo runs are top-class. BMW Group Classic is bringing a number of fantastic vehicles to the Ring. For example, a BMW 635 CSI, which commemorates the fact that the Munich-based company won the first season of the DTM with this model in 1984.
In the year of the series' 30th anniversary, drivers who have contested well over 250 DTM races in total will be coming to the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix. The ex-DTM drivers Johnny Cecotto, Marc Hessel, Leopold Prinz von Bayern and Harald Grohs will be on board. Marc Surer will be the fifth guest. In addition to the 635 CSI, the legendary M3, which caused a sensation not only in the German Touring Car Championship, will of course also be on show.
In the demonstration runs, Hessel and Surer will also climb into a very special treasure: they will be driving the 1997 BMW McLaren F1 GTR, a super sports car in a class of its own.
