Four product generations and over 2.7 million vehicles sold in Europe are proof of the Ypsilon's success story. In more than 30 years, the vehicle has evolved to become an icon of Lancia style. The secret of this longevity lies above all in its focus on the needs, wishes and tastes of female buyers.
Y10 - the first generation
The success story began with the Autobianchi Y10, which was marketed everywhere outside Italy as the Lancia Y10 and is regarded as the first small lifestyle car.
The small car was presented in Geneva in March 1985 and looked very futuristic at the time with its straight rear end and black tailgate.
The Y10 was kept up to date for over ten years and visually adapted to the respective brand identity, followed by its successor, the Lancia Y, in 1995.
Y - the second generation
Enrico Fumia designed the second generation, which dispensed with the "10" in the name and was simply called "Y". Technically, the Y was based on the Fiat Punto of the time.
Once again, the small car was aimed at a fashionable clientele and there was a whole range of special versions.
Ypsilon - the third and fourth generation
In 2003, the Lancia Ypsilon with the internal designation Type 843 was presented at the Geneva Motor Show as the successor to the Y.
The successor model followed in 2011 as the Type 846, which was adapted to the Delta III with external modifications.
The Ypsilon "30th Anniversary"
At the Geneva Motor Show, Lancia is presenting a new special series of the Lancia Ypsilon, which features an emblem specially designed by the Lancia Style Center on the exterior pillars and a refined body in Ultramarine Blue, a color developed exclusively for the "30th Anniversary" series.
A version with a black tailgate is also available on request - a reminiscence of the first model launched in 1985. The new "30th Anniversary" special series will be available in Switzerland from March and offers 15-inch alloy wheels, ESC stability system, manual air conditioning, radio-CD-MP3 with Blue&Me technology, steering wheel controls and chrome exhaust as standard. The following engines are available: the 0.9 TwinAir with 85 hp with manual or automatic transmission and the 0.9 natural gas Turbo TwinAir with 80 hp.
