In September 2013, vintage and classic car fans from all over Europe made the pilgrimage to Berchtesgaden for the first time to admire over 120 of the rarest and most valuable historic vehicles in motorsport history up close on the Rossfeld-Höhenringstrasse. Now you can mark the last weekend in September in red in your calendar: The third edition of the Edelweiss Bergpreis Rossfeld Berchtesgaden will take place on the weekend of September 25-27, 2015.
Rossfeld as a fixed date for the "who's who" of the classic car scene
Building on the success of the two previous editions, this year's event will once again begin on Friday afternoon with the vehicle presentation in the pedestrian zone in Berchtesgaden. On Saturday and Sunday, the legendary Rossfeld will then become the stage for fascinating sports, touring, racing and formula cars from the time of the unforgettable European Championship hillclimbs on the Rossfeld and the legendary Salzberg races on the gravel road between Berchtesgaden and the Obersalzberg. Hardly less fascinating: the numerous historic service vehicles, race transporters, police cars, fire engines and ambulances and - last but not least - the 25 or so vintage buses that chauffeur spectators to the individual observation points in style and comfort.
"50 years of Formel Vau" anniversary celebrations with numerous originals
One thing is clear: as in previous years, some German car manufacturers are opening their treasure troves especially for the Rossfeld and bringing numerous "chrome jewels" to Berchtesgaden. The first small sensation: although in poor health, Siegfried Spiess will participate as co-driver in the original Spiess-NSU TT 2015. Alongside Sepp Greger, Siggi Spiess was the most successful rider at the Rossfeld. He took part nine times between 1963 and 1971 and won his class seven times. Also taking part again: Rossfeld ambassador Walter Röhrl and track announcers Dirk Johae and Rainer Braun.
The author of the cult book series "Hallo Fahrerlager" is certainly looking forward to 2015: the legendary "Formula Vau" at Rossfeld is celebrating a round - and above all historically coherent - anniversary. On June 13, 1965, the once most successful junior formula series in the world celebrated its official European premiere at Rossfeld. Numerous personalities from the world of Formula Vee have confirmed their attendance. In cooperation with the "Historische Formel Vau Europa e. V.", at least a dozen Formula Vau cars will start towards the summit. Top-class cars such as Manfred Schurti's original 1970 Austro Vau 1300 have been announced.
Abarth focus
As if one focus wasn't enough, initiator Joachim Althammer is even going one better: there will also be an Abarth focus in 2015! Fans of the mostly small-volume racing cars tuned by legend Carlo Abarth are guaranteed to get their money's worth. After all, the range of Abarth vehicles is enormous: until the early 1970s, Abarth models won hundreds of class victories throughout Europe. Naturally, some of the most successful Abarth cars will be taking part in this year's Edelweiss Bergpreis - including the Abarth 1300 OT from 1965.
