On August 31, 2014, the "24 Tours du Pont" event will take place for the first time. In the style of the 24 Heures du Mans, sports car enthusiasts will come together to proudly present their gems or to experience automotive history live as spectators. Car dealers and manufacturers will also have the opportunity to demonstrate their models in a historical context.
This unique festival of sports car history will take place at the historic Glienicke Bridge in Potsdam. The interface between Berlin and Potsdam is famous for the spectacular stories of agents between East and West Germany. The route runs for 1.2 km past the bridge and around the historic Garage du Pont filling station. The whole spectacle will be commentated by well-known motorsport commentators.
Vehicles from five decades will gather to revive the fascination of mobility. The participants will present their cars in 3 classes over 24 laps with mandatory driver changes at the Garage du Pont.
The 24 Tours du Pont is by no means a race, but a presentation of classic sports and racing cars. For this reason, the participants will not be judged according to official FIA criteria.
The location has a French flair, as the name of the event suggests. Next to the Garage du Pont is the Pitlane, a NITAG petrol station from the 1930s that has been converted with great attention to detail. The mixture of bistro, café, restaurant and automobile museum revives the spirit of the times and the feeling of motorsport. The start and finish are also located here. Next door is the publicly accessible Parc Fermé at the Villa Schöningen, which also invites you to linger. The Parc de l'Automobiles Historiques right next door offers space for at least 100 classic cars and anyone who wants to can get a parking permit for their classic car for a fee.
From 11:00 a.m., the engines are warmed up and the first warm-up laps are driven. The first special run starts at 12:30 p.m., where manufacturers and dealers will be allowed to show off their classic cars. The participants are then presented before their run and then start in groups, interspersed with special runs. In the evening at 18:00, the whole spectacle is over and those who want to can end the evening at one of the lakes around Potsdam and indulge in memories of the fascinating sports and racing cars of the 24 Tours du Pont.
