As every year, the oldest running motoring event, the London to Brighton - Veteran Car Run, takes place on the first Sunday in November. The 125th edition (!) will be held on November 7, 2021 and commemorates the famous "Emancipation Run" of November 1896, which celebrates the introduction of the "Locomotive on the Highway Act". At the time, the amendment raised the speed limit for light locomotives from 4mph to 14mph. It also repealed the antiquated and, from today's perspective, very strange law that stated that a man waving a red flag must walk in front of all motorized vehicles.
In the modern era, 125 years after the first race, numerous classic cars from the years before 1905 will once again gather to pay tribute to the pioneering spirit and the agility of the early motorists. The start will be in Hyde Park in London. A halfway stop for refreshments for the drivers and necessary service work on the cars will be made in Crawley, before heading through the South Downs to Madeira Drive and finally to the beach in Brighton.
The Royal Automobile Club is expecting up to 500 participants! Ben Cussons, Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club says: "There is no motoring event anywhere in the world that matches the incredible history and charisma of the RM/Sotheby's London to Brighton Veteran Car Run and this year's 125th edition will be more special than any since the Centenary Run in 1996."
Furthermore, the new title partner RM/Sotheby's will hold a special London to Brighton Run Sale at a special location in London.
The bidding is still open until Tuesday, June 22, 2021. Further information can be found on the Veteran Car Run website.
