The first international historic hill climb to the summit of the Ballon d'Alsace in eastern France will take place from August 12 to 14, 2016. The organizers can look back on 110 years of tradition.
110 years of tradition
In 1906, automobiles tackled the ascent to the summit of the Ballon d'Alsace for the first time and this event was repeated annually until the end of the 1970s. 110 years later, the historic version of the hill climb takes place for the first time on the same route.
There are around 678 vertical meters to conquer on the 9 km route from Saint Maurice sur Moselle to the summit. The route is closed to other traffic, but the event is a demonstration ride and not a race, which is why there is no timekeeping.
Vehicles of all kinds.
Participation is possible with all types of vehicles, and very unusual vehicles are particularly welcome. The only condition is that the vehicles must be at least 25 years old.
Depending on their requirements, participants can drive up the mountain in a sporty or more touristy manner, a parade is offered for slower drivers, while the more sporty participants can register for the mountain race with several heats. Parking is included in the price, but in some cases significantly more.
Participation in the parade costs 35 euros for a vehicle with 2 people, while participation in the hill climb starts at 245 euros per team. Registration is possible on the website.
