Elaborately prepared terrain king
€
History:
The G-Class Mercedes Benz, first built in 1972, was an evergreen that can be compared with the Land Rover Defender. Virtually indestructible and suitable for rough use. This G - also known as the Wolf - is one of the most off-road capable vehicles in the world. This convertible variant promises a great deal of driving pleasure and feels in its element on Swiss roads or in a sunny location. This G was first registered in Lithuania in September 1985, where it was registered as a 5-seater. 36 years later, the solid example was purchased by a Swiss automobile enthusiast, underwent a complex procedure (with DTC) for Swiss registration and a total of over CHF 25,000 was invested in the technology and a new soft top. Today, the 240G is in extremely good condition and can be freely upgraded by an enthusiast.
Bodywork and paintwork:
The bodywork was repainted a few years ago and is still well-maintained and undamaged. The gaps, typical of Mercedes Benz, are very good. The add-on parts are also undamaged and the fittings and hinges are in perfect condition.
Interior:
The interior is spartan, simple, functional and absolutely low-maintenance. It can rain as much as it wants, with the top down the passengers remain protected, with the top up the water runs and everything dries as if it were a sailing ship.
Engine and mechanics:
The engine underwent an extensive inspection and all wearing parts were replaced. This also included an overhaul of the cooling system and the hydraulic elements of the gearbox and rear axle. With a mileage of just over 80,000 km, an engine of this type is considered "just well run-in", as the 2.4 liter diesel engine is considered indestructible.
Chassis:
The chassis and brakes were overhauled during the last MFK inspection and are in good working order. Only the first braking must be carried out with caution when the vehicle is parked for a longer period of time. The chassis and underbody have been completely derusted and partially preserved. The restoration work is documented with many photographs. A 13-page work log from a renowned Swiss Mercedes Benz company shows the entire effort involved in the complete refurbishment of this example.
Driving experience:
Don't be in a hurry. It takes a while to reach the 115 km/h top speed. But even until then, it is a joy to feel the infinite freedom and discover driving in a completely new way. The off-road king will hardly be able to live out his skills in the great outdoors, but will give the driver and passenger a wonderful driving experience.
Recommendation:
If you've never had a real off-road vehicle before, you're in for a real treat with this vehicle. Open-top, off-road classics on four wheels have been in vogue for many years and are therefore extremely stable in value. The G of the 461 series is considered indestructible and is also a financial investment in every respect. With over 25,000 Swiss francs invested, this G240 can be described as a very good buying opportunity.
