The eighties were dark years when it came to convertibles. American legislation became so strict that it was hardly possible to homologate open-top cars. This left the Mercedes SL, the Triumph TR7 and the Fiat Europa Spider as the last open-top cars on the market at the beginning of the 1980s. Jaguar therefore followed the path that VW had already taken with the Golf and brought the "Targa" XJ-S onto the market. A highly practical and attractive car that was overshadowed for many years by its successor, the convertible. Today, the Cabriolet, or as the English say: the Cabbie, is highly appreciated for its superior handling compared to the rather unstable Convertible. Furthermore, this is now one of the rarer Jaguars to have been produced in modern times.
Our XJ-SC arrived in Switzerland almost as a new car after only a few months. The second owner soon sold the car again and so this well-kept car remained in the same hands for decades. The black/black color combination is very rare and looks great on the car with the black soft top.
At 77,000 km, this XJ-SC shows no signs of wear and tear. It looks almost as fresh as it did 34 years ago. In short, this is a car that will give pleasure for many decades to come, with an engine that will never be seen again in this form. On the one hand, it was the first mass-produced V12 engine and, at the same time, the swan song of these dinosaur engines. Despite the rather antique technology, this legendary V12 engine barely needs 15 liters per 100 km on long journeys, which is not always undercut by today's sports cars. The rear axle was completely overhauled by us, including the Dana differential.
