In 1969, Audi presented the 100 CS Coupé, which was characterized on the one hand by many identical parts to the saloon, but on the other hand by some refinements to the engine, chassis and equipment. The hobby testers were delighted and would have loved to take part in the Monte Carlo Rally with the car. With a sprint time of less than 10 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, the Audi 100 CS Coupé was a fast car in 1969, so the Hobby editors did not predict a "Capri run" due to the comparatively high price.

At the beginning of the 1970s, Audi offered two different two-door versions of its top model. With a notchback and long wheelbase, the Audi 100 two-door was for those who wanted to combine the advantages of a saloon with a little more elegance. The coupé with a shortened chassis and hatchback, on the other hand, was more for the sports driver who often needed four seats. This historical test from 1970 clarifies the details.
At Audi in 1970, they took the term "coupé" literally and cut eleven and a half centimetres from the floor assembly of the 100 to transform the two-door notchback saloon into a sporty hatchback. The result was a touring car that was as fast as it was safe to drive. Only the space on offer was of course somewhat more limited, as this historical test report shows.
With the Audi 100 Coupé S, the Ingolstadt-based company presented a ravishingly beautiful coupé in 1969. It took some time before the test editors were able to lay their hands on the Audi sports car; the Austrian Auto Revue published its first test in 1971. Herbert Völker was very impressed by the appearance and safety, but also highlighted weaknesses and points for improvement in his report.
