Jack Turner was a Welsh engineer and motorsport enthusiast from Abergavenny. He trained as an engineer and in 1948 he decided to set up in business and bought The Old Smithy estate in Seisdon, which he converted into a garage. As a sports car specialist, he carried out all kinds of work, from repairs to customizations and complete rebuilds of customers' vehicles. Over the years, he came into possession of an old MG Magnette, which he restored and began racing. He also designed and built his own engines and developed a 4-cylinder, 500cc engine for Formula 3 racing. The first car known as the Turner was an MG K3 Magnette modified by Jack for businessman John Webb, which was extremely successful in various races.
