Preview (beginning of the article)
While the last racing cars were still speeding past outside, people made themselves comfortable in the hall in the center of Monaco. Hardly a chair was free when Max Girardo called the first lot just after 18:00. RM was surprised by the large number of visitors, expectations were high. The auction began with an additional lot that went under the hammer for a good cause. One bidder paid Euro 2000 for a very special VIP package for the Silverstone Grand Prix. A few minutes later, the overall of Grand Prix driver Aytron Senna, who died in 1992, was sold for 47,500 euros. The first car was a pretty light blue Fiat 500 from 1957, which was bid up to Euro 27,500, which was significantly below the estimated price. The Fiat 500 Mare, built in 1960 by Carrozzeria Holiday in the style of the Fiat Jolly, was a surprise. Instead of the estimated €18,000 to €25,000, the hammer fell at €45,000!
