Preview (beginning of the article)
It was not the first time that RM Sotheby's had auctioned an entire collection, nor was it a first that all the vehicles were offered without a reserve price. And this time, too, the risk for the consignors was manageable, as RM succeeded in selling the 78 vehicles for around USD 52 million (EUR 46.3 million, CHF 48.4 million). On average, a bidder paid around USD 668,000 (EUR 594,000, CHF 621,000) per car at the Andrews Collection auction in Fort Worth (Texas) on May 2, 2015, not least thanks to a whole series of million-dollar lots, such as the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, which fetched an impressive USD 1.84 million (EUR 1.64 million, CHF 1.71 million).
