RM/Sotheby's Guikas Collection auction 2021 - everything sold, but less expensive than hoped for
Summary
On November 19, 2021, an entire collection of racing cars, sports cars and special bodies went under the hammer in Le Castellet, France. The 76 cars had been estimated at just over EUR 50 million in total, with the sale of all vehicles achieving EUR 39 million (CHF 41 million). The deviations from the estimated values were considerable in some cases, with some rarities going to new owners for less than a third of the estimate because no minimum prices were required. To say that Jean Guikas is a car enthusiast would almost be an understatement. At the age of just over ten, he spotted a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona on the roads of southern France in the early 1970s and was immediately hooked. His father was obviously quite happy with this enthusiasm, as he searched for the owner of the blue Daytona and put it in his garage. The basis for a lifelong passion for cars in his son was guaranteed. This was also demonstrated when Jean Guikas bought a Ferrari 250 GT PF Coupé at the age of 19, which was soon followed by a racing Daytona. Guikas quickly became enthusiastic about fast racing cars and joined the family company at a young age. In 1989, he sold his shares in the logistics company and was now able to devote himself to his passion. He founded the company GTC and began trading in high-quality classic cars. He kept some for himself until now and 76 of these cars went under the hammer on November 19, 2021 from 12:00 noon (CET) at the Le Castellet racetrack.
