RM/Sotheby's Amelia Island 2022 - Pre-war and neoclassic cars worth millions and Porsche Festival
Summary
RM/Sotheby's closed the auction week on March 5, 2022 at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elégance. 88 cars went under the hammer, with an average age of 53 years. However, it was primarily very old and very young cars that fetched millions, while a VW-Porsche 914/6 went for USD 544,000 and a BMW 850i for USD 218,400. However, a Ford V8, a Ferrari Testarossa and a Porsche 917/30 in 2:3 scale exceeded expectations the most. This auction review analyzes the results of the 42 million dollar auction and shows the cars in pictures.

RM/Sotheby's had announced 88 cars for the auction at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elégance on March 5, 2022. In fact, it was actually 87 cars, as Lot 106 was a 2:3 scale child's car. But because it looked deceptively similar to a Porsche 917/30, an interested bidder offered 1.6 times the estimated value and ultimately paid a whopping USD 108,000 for it. The dominant brand was Porsche with 18 vehicles, followed by Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz with seven, Packard with six and Cadillac and Jaguar with five cars. While all the Porsches were sold and the highest bids were even higher than the average estimate, only three of the seven Ferraris were successfully knocked down, resulting in the lowest sales rate of all brands.
