Summary
For once, the classic car gallery had to move the Dolder auction from the ice rink, which was undergoing renovation, to the nearby Grand Hotel Dolder. This meant that not only the selection of vehicles but also the number of bidders had to shrink. Despite this, vehicles were offered for over four million Swiss francs, 64 percent of which were sold or conditionally knocked down, including a magnificent 1956 Ford Thunderbird and the 2003 BWM Z8. This auction report shows the atmosphere on site and analyzes the results in detail. All vehicles are illustrated.

Preview (beginning of the article)
Everything was different on June 17, 2017. For the past five years, Reinhard Schmidlin and his team had auctioned off 60 to 80 cars at the Dolder ice rink in Zurich, but in 2017 this ice rink is being renovated, which is why the auction had to move. Schmidlin found a noble alternative in "The Dolder Grand" hotel just a few kilometers away from the ice rink, so that 42 vehicles, including 4 motorcycles, could still be auctioned. The value of the 42 lots amounted to around CHF 4.7 million (EUR 4.4 million), so an average of around CHF 113,000 (EUR 104,000) was expected per vehicle. The very expensive million-dollar objects were missing in 2017, with neither a Ferrari F40 nor a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL appearing in the catalog.
