Towards the end of the sixties, there were four sports enthusiast brands in France, Alpine, CG, Ligier and Matra, all of which were powered by third-party engines, which were joined by the Jidé brand in 1969. It was founded by Jacques Durant - whose initials gave rise to the brand name - in Châtillon-sur-Thouet, Deux Sèvres. Durant was an incorrigible designer and brand founder, as he had already presented the Atla in 1958 and later worked on the Sera and Arista. Like the Atla and the Alpine, the Jidé was based on technical elements from Renault. In contrast to the Alpine, which was built in far greater numbers, the drive unit in the Jidé was not installed in the rear, but in the opposite direction in front of the rear axle according to the mid-engine concept.
