Delage 1905-1954 - Haute Voiture
Summary
There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. One of these vanished brands is Delage, which produced vehicles from 1905 to 1954. Brilliant from the outset with advanced technology and successful in races (Indianapolis 500 miles, French Grand Prix), Delage won the hearts (and wallets) of the haute volee clientele. Delage was then taken over by Delahaye.

Louis Delage put a horizontal line on the "a" of his signature - and fans thought that the brand name should be written "Delâge". In the AR factory documents, however, the brand name appears consistently in capital letters and without the accent circonflexe. It is important to note that Delage ranked third in the exclusivity scale of French production cars behind Bugatti and Hispano-Suiza. Engineer Delage was head of development at Peugeot before initially building small cars with a De Dion single-cylinder engine with his colleague Augustin Legros in Levallois near Paris in 1905. Later, he added his own drive units and four-cylinder engines from Ballot. From the outset, Delage focused on racing, and its successes quickly helped the brand to gain a reputation and full order books. In 1913, the double victory at the Grand Prix de France achieved with 6.2 L four-cylinder engines caused a sensation, followed by victory in the Indianapolis 500 miles in 1914.
