Summary
When three Vauxhall, nine Land Rover, two Standard and four Austin cars go under the hammer, it must typically be an auction in the UK. Bonhams went under the hammer in Bicester on March 20, 2021, for 99 vehicles worth just under £1.9 million, after almost a tenth of the cars had been withdrawn. The most expensive car sold was a Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG 6.0 Wide Body, but there were also surprisingly high prices for pre-war models and former bread-and-butter cars. This auction article analyzes the results, describes the auction dynamics and shows many of the vehicles in pictures.
This article contains the following chapters

- The Lotus Seven for the Concours
- Surprises among the projects
- Retired museum cars

When three Vauxhall, nine Land Rover, two Standard and four Austin cars go under the hammer, it must typically be an auction in the UK. Bonhams went under the hammer in Bicester on March 20, 2021, for 99 vehicles from around 50 manufacturers worth a total of just under £1.9 million, after almost a tenth of the cars had been withdrawn. The auction was conducted live with an auctioneer. The cars, provided they were in working order, were driven up and introduced by two presenters who were fond of using superlatives and laudatory adjectives. Then the floor was given to the hammer-wielding auctioneer, who ensured that the auction was dynamic with written pre-bids and submissions via the Internet and telephone, which worked quite well even without an on-site audience.
